Leguzia (lat. Legousia) - flowering culture; a genus of herbaceous plants belonging to the Bellflower family. In the natural environment, representatives of the genus are found in European countries, as well as in Turkmenistan. Typical habitats are abandoned areas, meadows, hills.

Characteristics of culture

Leguzia is represented by annual herbaceous plants with simple weakly branched stems endowed with regular, small green foliage. Lower foliage with petioles, upper foliage sessile. The flowers, depending on the type, are white, pink, lilac, blue or blue, small, axillary or apical. The flowers have a five-part calyx, which, in turn, is crowned with a long tube of reverse conical shape.

The corolla is bell-shaped or funnel-shaped, usually wide, open. Flowers are collected in panicles or brushes. Fruits are represented by elongated three-celled or unilocular capsules, which are equipped with miniature valves. Seeds are shiny, flattened, ovoid or elliptical, most often brown in color. Most of the species deserve the attention of florists and gardeners, as they boast of high decorative properties.

Leguzia Mirror of Venus (Latin Legousia speculum-veneris) - one of the most common types. It is characterized by a branched stem no more than 30 cm high, topped with elongated ovoid foliage. The flowers are blue with a lilac tint and a white central part, do not exceed 2 cm in diameter. The shape of the flowers of the species under consideration is unusual - saucer-shaped. The inflorescence is a panicle.

Growing features

All representatives of the genus Leguzia are quite whimsical to the growing conditions of the plant. They prefer sunny areas or areas with diffused light. A thick shade is highly undesirable, as it is detrimental to plants. In the shade, Leguzia blooms weakly or does not bloom at all, often ill, stunted. Soils are preferable loose, light, water and air permeable, moderately moist. Leguzia will not tolerate commonwealth with heavy, dry, poor and swampy soil.

Leguzia is propagated by sowing seeds, and it is recommended to sow directly into open ground in the fall under a shelter in the form of fallen leaves. The layer of foliage should be at least 4 cm. With the onset of spring and the warming up of the soil, the entrances peck together and quickly, the main thing is not to forget to remove the insulating layer in time. With the appearance of 2 true leaves on the seedlings, it is recommended to thin out. The optimum distance between plants is 20-25 cm.

Caring for the culture is very simple and consists of several manipulations. The first is regular watering as needed, especially in the heat. Leguzia does not like dry soil. Lack of regular watering can lead to stunted growth and poor flowering. The second important manipulation is the removal of weeds. Weeds take a lot of substances important for growth from cultural representatives. Leguzia is also good for feeding. It is recommended to apply fertilizers in the fall before sowing seeds in the ground.
