Description of the medicinal properties of erect cinquefoil
Erect cinquefoil is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the rhizomes and grass of this plant. The concept of grass includes flowers, stems and leaves of erect cinquefoil. The rhizomes of this plant should be harvested in the period from September to October, or already around April-May, when the basal leaves grow back.
The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of essential oil, tannins, organic acids, phenols, catechins, phenol carboxylic acids, anthocyanin glucoside, as well as lipids and the following fatty acids in their composition: linolenic, stearic, oleic, linoleic, lauric, palmitic and pentadecanoic.
Erect cinquefoil is endowed with a very valuable astringent, anti-inflammatory, hemostatic, bactericidal and restorative effect. It should be noted that the local anti-inflammatory effect will be directly related to those tannins, which will create a biofilm that protects tissues from mechanical, bacterial and chemical influences.
A decoction and tincture, prepared on the basis of erect cinquefoil rhizomes, is recommended for enterocolitis, enteritis, diarrhea, ulcerative colitis with bleeding from the intestine, dysentery, gastritis, duodenal ulcer and stomach ulcer, and also as a choleretic agent for cholecystitis, jaundice, cirrhosis of the liver, rheumatism, gout, ulcerative colitis, cholecystitis, acute and chronic hepatitis. An infusion prepared on the basis of the roots of Potentilla erect is recommended for use with nephritis. In dermatology, this plant is used internally for vasculitis, and externally used for neurodermatitis, cracked skin and upper limbs, as well as eczema.
