Lantana vaulted (lat. Lantana camara) - herbaceous plant, shrub or shrub from the Verbenaceae family. The combination of unpretentiousness to living conditions and the beautiful appearance of Lantana have made it a popular resort plant in countries with warm climates. The peculiar tart aroma of Lantana has a beneficial effect on the human nervous system and promotes a healthy appetite. The leaves of the plant cause poisoning in many human-grown animals, and green fruits are toxic to humans. The aggressive nature of Lantana requires the attention of the gardener to avoid overgrowth and displacement of other plants from the area.

Description

Plant stems

Fast-growing shrub stalks, which can be smooth or thorny, require space, or intricately intertwine with each other, creating an impassable barrier for pedestrians. Therefore, at least 50-70 cm should be left between the planted bushes.

If the bushes are not trimmed, the plant will rise to a height of more than two meters. In hotels, gardeners do not allow Lantana to grow too much, limiting the bush in both height and width. Therefore, there are bushes in the form of neat borders, denoting footpaths, refreshing the air and decorating the territory with their leaves and inflorescences.

Vaulted lantana stems, resistant to the destructive power of the sun, moisture and termite ants, are widely used by the local population to make wicker furniture, which is valued on a par or even higher than reed and bamboo furniture.

Plant leaves

The graceful dark green leaves of Lantana vaulted are adorned with pretty teeth along the edge. There are plant species with smooth leaf edges. The surface of the leaf seems rough and wrinkled, like a hummocky field, along which smooth streams of veins spread.

Under the external beauty and mint scent of the leaves, the toxic abilities of the plant are hidden. In countries where Lantana grows in the wild, it is the enemy of people who have domestic herbivores, for which the leaves are life-threatening. Only a marsupial marsh wallaby living in the prairies of Australia can eat the toxic leaves of Lantana vaulted without harm to health.

Extracts are prepared from the leaves of Lantana vaulted to help protect cabbage grown in the garden from gluttonous aphids.

Plant flowers

Small, unpretentious flowers of Vaulted Lantana form miniature inflorescences, surprisingly painted by a natural artist. They can be monochromatic or multi-colored. Their scent attracts smart butterflies and hardworking bees.

Plant fruit

Pollinated inflorescences turn into green fruits, which gradually turn black, becoming like juicy blackberries. Only they are not juicy at all, but rather dry, and are not suitable for human nutrition.

Reproduction and care

It is possible to propagate Lanthanum vodka by sowing seeds (it easily propagates by self-sowing, turning into a weed), or by cuttings.

Care is simple. Require watering during prolonged drought. Removing excess or injured branches and trimming to shape.

Usage

The shrub is an excellent material for creating impenetrable green walls and curbs on footpaths.

A single planting of bushes is also in demand by designers when it is necessary to break the monotony of a green lawn.
