Iris yellow is also known under the name Swamp Iris. Iris yellow is a perennial herb, endowed with an oblique rhizome and numerous adventitious roots that will extend downward. It is noteworthy that the remnants of dead leaves will be noticeable on the upper side of the rhizome. From the rhizome of this plant, basal leaves and a multi-flowered stem will depart. The leaves of the yellow killer whale are broad-linear, their width is about two centimeters. Such leaves will be quite long and endowed with parallel venation and a pointed tip, such leaves will be green in color. The flowers of the yellow iris are large, they are regular, and the perianth is painted in yellow tones, endowed with a six-part limb and a short tube. The fruit of the yellow iris is a three-celled polyspermous capsule endowed with flattened seeds.

The flowering of the yellow killer whale falls on the period from June to July. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in Belarus, Western Siberia, Ukraine, in the European part of Russia, in the Crimea and the Caucasus. For growth, the plant prefers swampy meadows, places along the banks of ponds and rivers, as well as swamps.

Description of the medicinal properties of the yellow whale

Iris yellow is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while it is recommended to use the rhizomes of this plant for medicinal purposes. Such rhizomes should be dug out either in late autumn or in spring. Such roots should be very thoroughly washed and dried, before that they should be cut into pieces.

The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of tannins, fatty oil, starch, isoflavone glycoside, essential oil, as well as the following organic acids: cinchona, malic, lactic, citric and fumaric acids in the rhizomes. The essential oil contains iron and ketone.

Iris yellow is endowed with anti-inflammatory, expectorant, astringent, diuretic, anthelmintic and hemostatic effect. This plant is used in the treatment of various malignant tumors, stomach ulcers, anacid gastritis and bladder papillomatosis.

As for traditional medicine, a decoction of the rhizomes of the yellow iris is quite widespread here. This remedy is recommended for pneumonia, bronchitis, spleen diseases, dropsy, emissions, sore throat and intestinal colic.

For various bleeding, diarrhea, goiter, ascites and round worms, it is recommended to use both fresh juice and powder and tincture of the rhizomes of this plant in red wine. With metrorrhagia, it is permissible to use a tincture of yellow iris rhizomes in seventy percent alcohol.

An aqueous infusion of dried rhizomes of this plant is recommended for the treatment of ulcers, purulent wounds, burns, and also for rinsing the mouth for toothache, acute gingivitis and chronic gingivitis. For hemorrhoids, sitz baths with infusion of fresh rhizomes of this plant are effective.

With inflammation of the sciatic nerve, arthritis, myositis, it is recommended to use a tincture of yellow iris rhizomes in sunflower oil. For periodontal disease, ten to fifteen grams of fresh juice from the rhizomes of this plant should be used.
