Description of European olives

The European olive is a small evergreen tree whose height will fluctuate between four and ten meters. The leaves of this plant will be elongated-oval in shape, and are also opposite and leathery, from above they will be painted in dark green tones, and from below they are silvery with stellate hairs. The flowers of the European olive are painted in delicate white tones, they are collected in paniculate brushes and are endowed with a very fragrant aroma. The fruits of this plant are oval or rounded fleshy drupes, which can be either black or dark purple in color.

The bloom of the European olives occurs in the period from May to June, while the fruits will ripen from September to December. It is noteworthy that, apparently, this plant is the most durable of the cultivated plants. It should be noted that this plant almost never occurs in the wild. The European olive will be cultivated on the territory of Central Asia, Crimea and Transcaucasia.

Description of the medicinal properties of European olives

European olive is endowed with very valuable medicinal properties, while it is recommended to use the leaves and fruits of this plant for medicinal purposes. Leaves are recommended to be harvested throughout the entire flowering period. The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content of vitamins and fatty oil in the composition of this plant, which will contain oleic, stearic, arachidonic, linoleic and palmitic acids. The fruits of the European olive contain catechins, carbohydrates, pectin substances, phenol carboxylic acids and triterpene saponins. In the leaves of this plant, flavonoids, resins, phytosterol, organic acids, oleuropein glycoside, lactone elenoid, essential oil, bitter and tannins were found.

It should be noted that it was experimentally found that the extract from the leaves of the European olive is able to reduce blood pressure, increase urine output, deepen breathing, and also slow down intestinal motility.

Olive oil is endowed with a very valuable wound healing, anti-inflammatory, enveloping, laxative and emollient effect, and will also help dissolve gallstones. For this reason, the European olive is used as a gentle laxative and enveloping agent for cholelithiasis, constipation, chronic gastritis, in case of poisoning by means of fluids, bleeding hemorrhoids, and in addition, it is also used as an emollient in the formation of hard crusts with abrasions, ulcers, bee stings, ulceration.

In addition, olive oil is used as a solvent for certain medicinal substances that are intended for intramuscular and subcutaneous administration. Also, this oil is used for the preparation of various ointments and patches. It is noteworthy that due to the content of unsaturated acids in olive oil, it is considered a very effective remedy for atherosclerosis. Traditional medicine uses olive oil for persistent constipation and severe dry coughs.
