Leafless blackberry is one of the plants of the family called Haze, in Latin the name of this plant will sound as follows: Anabasis aphylla L. As for the name of the family of this plant itself, in Latin it will be like this: Chenopodiaceae Vent.

Description of leafless blackberry

The leafless blackberry is also known as anabasis, this plant is a perennial shrub, the height of which will fluctuate between thirty and seventy centimeters. The root of this plant is woody. The stems of the leafless blackberry will be woody, and from the base they are bushy-branched. Annual shoots will be articulate, succulent, leafless and cylindrical. The flowers of this plant are rather small, they are painted in pink or white tones. Such flowers will gather at the ends of stems and branches in spike-shaped inflorescences.

The flowering of leafless blackberries occurs in the period from August to September. The fruit of this plant is berry-like. It is noteworthy that all parts of the leafless blackberry are poisonous and for this reason constant care should be taken when handling the leafless blackberry.

Under natural conditions, this plant can be found on the territory of the European part of Russia: in the south of the Lower Don and Lower Volga regions, as well as near the Sea of Azov. Also, this plant grows in Central Asia and the Caucasus. For the place of growth, leafless blackberries prefers salt licks, saline loess-like serozem soils, salt marshes, fine-earth slopes and sand with close saline waters, at an altitude of one thousand four hundred meters above sea level. The plant can grow both in groups and in thickets.

Description of the medicinal properties of leafless blackberry

The leafless blackberry is endowed with very valuable medicinal properties, while the aerial part of this plant should be used for medicinal purposes, which should be cut off at the very base of the stem. It is recommended to dry the aerial part in the open air until the branches of this plant become stiff and brittle.

In addition, you can use the roots of leafless blackberry: these roots contain pectins, alkaloids, organic acids and carbohydrates. As for alkaloids, the content of anabasine in them is of the greatest importance here, which in its physiological action and chemical properties will very much resemble nicotine. Like nicotine, anabasine first excites and then paralyzes the autonomic ganglia and related formations.

In medicine, derivatives of anabasine and other alkaloids are also used: lupicaine, methylanabazine and nicotinic acid, which is called 3-pyridinecarboxylic acid. Methylanabazine is used as a respiratory stimulant, nicotinic acid is used as a specific agent against pellagra, and lupicaine is a fast-acting local anesthetic. It is noteworthy that such a drug will exceed the duration of the effects of cocaine.

As for veterinary medicine, here the aqueous extract of this plant is used to treat a variety of skin diseases in livestock. It should be remembered that anabasine can penetrate the skin and even cause poisoning, and two to three drops of this substance are a lethal dose for humans.

It is noteworthy that anabazine is widely used in the national economy, where this substance is used to combat numerous pests of agricultural crops. Here this substance is used as a 40% anabasine sulfate: it is a liquid mixture of sulfuric acid salts of a dark brown color, the supply of which will resemble nicotine.
