Zvezdchatka also known under such names as woodlice and stellaria. This plant is one of the perennials, but sometimes there are also annual species. The most common in the culture is the cereal stellate, which is the most decorative species of this plant.

Starfish is endowed with creeping shoots, in length such shoots can even reach forty centimeters. However, there are some types of stellate that will have erect stems, such stems can even reach seventy centimeters in height. It is noteworthy that the flowers are not endowed with a smell, they are rather small in size, endowed with a star-shaped shape, and the flowers are white in color. Stellate bloom continues throughout the summer.

Care and cultivation of starfish

Starfish is a rather unpretentious plant to care for, however, certain rules will be required to ensure the favorable development of this plant. Actually, stellate can develop favorably on any soils, however, it is most preferable to choose loose, moist and acidic soils. The plant can grow in shaded areas, in the open sun, as well as in partial shade.

As for watering, the starfish will need moderate watering: this applies only to the first time after planting in open ground. After that, the plant will no longer need any watering. Stellate is characterized by a fairly rapid growth, so if you do not control the distribution of this plant, stellate very quickly occupies all available free space, and over time it even turns into a weed. For this reason, many plants are found in vegetable gardens precisely as weeds, in particular this circumstance applies to such a species as the middle star. In order to control the spread of this plant, it will be necessary to pull the plants out of the soil along with the roots even before the formation of seeds and take them out of the suburban area. In the event that the plants remain on the ground, then all new shoots will quickly take root.

The plant is very resistant to winter temperatures, for this reason, the starfish will not need any shelter during the winter period.

Reproduction of stellate

Reproduction of the starlet can occur both through seeds and by dividing the bush. As already mentioned, the starfish reproduces very well and quickly through self-seeding. It is noteworthy that those seeds that are in the soil can remain viable for decades. Crops do not need to be protected from frost, and new seedlings will appear quite quickly. It is also important to remember that the seeds do not grow at the same time, and new shoots can appear up to the autumn period.

Starfish proves to be an ideal plant for use in alpine slides and even mixed flower beds. Starchatka is a ground cover plant and for this reason, the plant may be the best choice for creating carpet flower gardens. In the event that favorable conditions are provided for the development of the starlet, the plant will form rather thick cushions of green color, which are completely dotted with bright white flowers.

Starfish can also be used as a food plant for numerous animals. Young shoots of starlet can also be eaten by people: both salads and soups are made from such shoots. It is noteworthy that stellate also has medicinal properties that have found application in folk medicine.
