Barclaya Motley (lat. Barclaya motleyi) Is an aquatic plant from the Water Lily family.
Description
Barclay Motli is an aquatic plant endowed with hairy petioles, the length of which reaches seventeen centimeters and the thickness is two millimeters. Rather large leaf blades are naked, rigid and entire on the front sides, and slightly fleecy on the back. By the way, they can grow up to ten centimeters in width and length. The bases of the leaf blades are usually heart-shaped, and their shape can be lanceolate or round. The color of the graceful leaves of this aquatic inhabitant can vary from reddish to neutral green shades on the front side and from rusty to light olive on the back. At the same time, every single leaf is immersed in the water column.
Barclay Motli grows from bizarre egg-shaped nodules that form basal rosettes of leaves and rather short shoots. And the tuberous elongated rhizomes of this plant are distinguished by their extraordinary density.
The graceful flowers of this aquatic beauty are characterized by a relatively small number of stamens and are located on short peduncles, and soft villi can be seen on its sepals. True, in order to be able to admire the flowering of Barclay Motli, it is important to try to follow all the rules for caring for this aquatic inhabitant.
Where grows
The main habitat of Barclay Motli is the reservoirs located in Sumatra and Borneo, as well as on the picturesque Malacca Peninsula.
Usage
Barclay Motli is widely used for growing in aquariums - it allows you to make their design not only beautiful, but also unique in its own way. And they place it either in the background or in the middle ground. At the same time, this aquatic inhabitant will look equally good both in single plantings and in a group of relatives.
Growing and caring
Despite its whimsicality, Barclay Motli takes root very well in aquarium conditions. Best of all, she will feel in a soft water environment characterized by an acidic reaction, the temperature of which is in the range from twenty to twenty-six degrees. And the soil intended for planting it should be rather loose and contain sufficient amounts of valuable nutrients. Barclay Motli is fed with iron-containing fertilizers, including liquid fertilizers containing iron ions. However, soil dressing from the most useful laterites will also come in handy. And when planting Barclay Motli, experts recommend placing a small amount of clay under its roots. This plant is planted at a distance of about twenty centimeters from each other - excessive crowding significantly complicates its growth and development.
Aquarium-grown specimens need a weekly water change - at least a quarter of the total should be changed.
Good lighting contributes to the best growth of Barclay Motli. Sometimes the leaves of aquarium specimens can decrease in size, but the reasons for this decrease are still unknown.
Reproduction of Barclay Motli occurs vegetatively: daughter shoots separated from the mother plants root in the ground. But so far, no one has succeeded in propagating this water beauty by seeds in artificial conditions.
With regard to attacks by pests and diseases, sometimes Barclay Motli is attacked by snails and becomes a victim of algae.
