Bakupari (Latin Garcinia gardneriana, or Rheedia brasiliensis) - a spectacular fruit crop from the Kluzievye family. In Brazil, it is called bacupari, and in Bolivia, this culture is known as guapomo.

Description

Bakupari is a relatively small tree with a rather colorful pyramidal crown. The leaves tapering near the bases can be either oval or lanceolate or oval-oblong. It is noteworthy that in case of damage, all terrestrial parts of the bakupari begin to secrete a very impressive amount of sticky yellowish latex.

Bakupari flowers are always bisexual, and you can admire the flowering of this plant in December (as for the Southern Hemisphere, it blooms there in the midst of the summer season). And the ripening of fruits usually occurs in January and February.

The diameter of the pear-shaped or rounded bakupari fruits reaches three to four centimeters. Each fruit is equipped with a fairly flexible and at the same time tough yellowish-orange skin. Inside the fruit is a white and very soft and pliable translucent pulp, which is characterized by a surprisingly pleasant strong smell and excellent taste. And in the middle of the pulp, you can find a couple of brownish oblong seeds.

Where grows

Bakupari grows mainly in the wild - this plant was practically not introduced into the culture, even at its place of origin. In the wild, it can be found both in southeastern Brazil and in a number of adjacent Bolivian and Paraguayan regions. And these fruits are sold mainly in local markets.

Application

The pulp of the fruit is often eaten fresh or made into wonderful sweets, jams or preserves. And from the seeds, a useful oil is obtained (the oil content in the seeds reaches about 8 - 9%). This oil is an excellent anti-inflammatory agent, which is actively used for compresses applied to tumors, wounds, boils or any other skin lesions of an inflammatory nature. And this oil is also used internally in case of enlargement of the liver.

The infusion of the pulp of these interesting fruits boasts a mild narcotic effect - in its strength it is comparable to the effect of nicotine. And the extracts of the bark and roots of this plant contain powerful antioxidants, endowed with pronounced bactericidal and antifungal properties.

Contraindications

When eating any exotic fruits, do not forget about certain precautions - the body may well respond to them with a wide variety of allergic manifestations.
