Descurania sofia is an annual herb, endowed with a stem with splayed branches. Such a stem, like the leaves themselves, will be grayish from abundant pubescence, and its height will fluctuate between twenty and eighty centimeters. The leaves of this plant are double- or triple-pinnate. The flowers of the descurainia sofia are rather small in size, they are painted in pale yellow tones and are endowed with four petals, which in turn gather in narrow spike-shaped brushes.

The pedicels of this plant will be thin at first, and with fruits they will be equal to the pod. The fruits of the descurania sofia are linear and bent, they are expanding pods. The pods to the top of this plant will be styloid-narrowed and they are pressed against the peduncle, the seeds of this plant are quite numerous, the length of such seeds will be about one and a half to two centimeters. Such seeds are small tuberous and colored in reddish-brown tones. It is noteworthy that the Sophia Descurania is endowed with a radish smell and a rather pungent burning taste.

The flowering of this plant occurs in the period from June to the month of July. At the same time, the fruiting of descurania sofia falls on the month of August. Under natural conditions, this plant can be found on the territory of Ukraine, Belarus, the Caucasus, Central Asia, as well as throughout Russia: including the Far East and Siberia, but excluding the Arctic regions. For the growth of Descurania Sofia prefers places along roads and near dwellings, meadows, fallow lands, fields and saline places.

Description of the medicinal properties of Descurania Sofia

Descurania sofia is endowed with very valuable medicinal properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the herb of this plant, roots, flowers and young pods. The roots of this plant should be harvested at the moment after the fruits ripen, which will happen around August-September, and the seeds must be harvested as the pods ripen, during the flowering of the descurania sofia, the grass and leaves should be harvested.

It should be noted that traditional medicine makes extensive use of the healing properties of this plant. Descurania sofia is endowed with antiseptic, astringent, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, antiemetic, stimulating, antihelminthic, hemostatic and expectorant effect. An infusion of the herb of this plant is used for dysentery, swelling, kidney and cholelithiasis, as well as for hysterical seizures. A concentrated infusion of the herb of this plant is used to cleanse purulent wounds, ulcers and boils.

The herb contains coumarins, alkaloids, mustard oil, saponins, and beta-sitosterol. The seeds of Descurania sofia contain fatty and organic acids.

In case of gallstone disease, it is recommended to use the following remedy: for its preparation, it is recommended to take one tablespoon of the herb descurania sofia per one glass of boiling water. The resulting mixture based on this plant should be infused for two hours, after which this mixture is filtered very thoroughly. Take this remedy on the basis of descurania sofia, one tablespoon three times a day before the start of a meal.
