Hydrotriche (Latin Hydrotriche) - a plant from the Norchinaceae family, which is also called hydrotrich or "water hair" (this is how the translation of its name sounds).

Description

Hydrotrihe is a very unusual plant, endowed with rather long stems and completely covered with needle-like leaves folding into numerous whorls, painted in incredibly pleasant light green shades. As for the root system, it is extremely poorly developed in this plant. If you look closely at the hydrotrica, you can understand that it is somewhat reminiscent of a horsetail.

The average height of this aquatic inhabitant reaches half a meter, and specimens growing in aquariums sometimes grow up to seventy centimeters.

Despite the fact that the hydrotriche branches very weakly, this plant blooms wonderfully - pleasant surface flowers simply cannot but please with their appearance.

Where grows

In nature, the hydrotriche lives mainly in the reservoirs of Madagascar.

Usage

Hydrotriche takes root well in aquariums, so many aquarists are very willing to acquire one. It is best to plant "water hair" in the central part of the aquarium - this plant will look especially good in small groups, each of which has five to six bushes.

Growing and caring

The hydrotriche will feel great both in warm containers and in tropical vessels. The most suitable temperature regime for this heat-loving handsome man is about twenty-two degrees - then it will grow evenly throughout the season.

The reaction of the water, ideally, should be neutral, and the hardness should be low enough. In very alkaline and excessively hard water, this plant can not only noticeably decrease, but also completely stop growing. And the water in the aquarium should always be clean - if it is dirty, the beautiful aquatic pet will simply die, so cleanliness is the key to its proper development. About a third of the water needs to be changed weekly, in addition, it is important to try to prevent the extremely undesirable fouling of the green handsome man with all kinds of algae. By the way, this can be easily done by placing the most useful "cleaners" in the aquariums in the form of various fish and mollusks - such rescuers with great pleasure eat algae formed on the stalks of the hydrotrich.

The soil for planting hydrotriches should be moderately or slightly silted. It does not hurt that it is also nutritious - despite the fact that the bulk of the nutrients "water hair" is obtained directly from the water, the floating forms of the plant may lack the necessary elements. Ideally, the acquired soil should also be small, since large particles can very easily damage the underdeveloped and surprisingly delicate roots of the hydrotrica. But there is no need to give feeding to this aquatic pet.

As for the lighting, it must be good. The most ideal option would be diffused light. In addition, "water hair" should be protected from direct sunlight. However, shading by other aquatic plants is also best avoided. For the organization of artificial lighting, lamps of the LB category are perfect, which are quite permissible to combine with the usual incandescent lamps. True, the latter are still better to use only as a backlight. And the value of daylight hours for hydrotriches should not be less than twelve hours.

Plant specimens not grown in nature reproduce mainly by cuttings of stems. In some cases, the separated cuttings are immediately planted in the ground, deeply deepening the lower whorls and not waiting for them to sprout, and sometimes they are left to float on the water surface until the roots are formed.
