Description of the Altai heteropappus
Altai heteropappus is a perennial herb, the height of which will be about thirty to sixty centimeters. The stems of this plant will be protruding-branched, they are endowed with shortened branches in the axils of the leaves. Among other things, the stems of the Altai heteropappus can be both erect and ascending, they are covered with hairs directed upward.
The leaves of this plant will be either sessile, or linear, or linear-oblong. The leaves gradually taper towards the base, and at the top they can be either blunt or short-pointed. On both sides, the leaves of the Altai heteropappis are pubescent by means of adjacent fine hairs and rather numerous small shiny glands. The uppermost leaves of this plant are gradually diminishing. The flowers of the Altai heteropappis gather in quite numerous baskets with tongues up to about three and a half centimeters in diameter. Such baskets are then tied into a corymbose-paniculate inflorescence. The underbelly leaves are three-rowed, as well as fine-iron and fine-haired. The outermost ones will be linear and they will be shorter than the leaves of the inner rows. The ligulate flowers of the Altai heteropappus are colored either lilac or pale blue, and their width will be about two to two and a half millimeters. The length of the achene fruits is two to three millimeters, they will be oblong-obovate and hairy, while the crest can be colored either pale brown or whitish.
The flowering of this plant occurs in the period from July to August. Under natural conditions, this plant can be found in Central Asia, Western and Eastern Siberia, as well as in China and Mongolia. For growth, Altai heteropappus prefers stony gravelly slopes, as well as steppe and solonetzic meadows.
Description of the medicinal properties of the Altai heteropappus
This plant is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while for medicinal purposes it is recommended to use the inflorescences and grass of the Altai heteropappus. The plant contains rubber, alkaloids, coumarin, flavonoids, terpenoids and saponins.
It should be noted that the aboveground part of the Altai heteropappus is endowed with protistocidal and antibacterial activity. In Tibetan and Mongolian medicine, infusions and decoctions made from the herb of this plant are used as an anti-inflammatory and antipyretic agent, and they are also used for respiratory infections, measles and smallpox.
As for traditional medicine, here the infusion and decoction of the herb of this plant is used as an expectorant. In addition, as confirmed by experimental studies, this plant is included in the collection, which has a wound-healing effect. In Tibetan medicine, the inflorescence of Altai heteropappus inflorescences is used for various respiratory diseases, as well as for a number of stomach diseases, including ulcers.
