Teasel (lat. Dipsacus) - a genus of biennial and perennial herbaceous plants belonging to the Honeysuckle family (lat. Caprifoliaceae). Under natural conditions, representatives of the genus are found in Asia, Africa and the Mediterranean. Most of the species are actively used in folk medicine for the preparation of medicinal tinctures and decoctions, while sowing tease has been used for a long time to nap fabrics and create winter bouquets, because it is inherent in infructescence, which are endowed with strong and elastic bracts.

Characteristics of culture

The genus under consideration includes many species, among them only a small part is popular, for example:

• Forest Teasel (lat. Dipsaacus fullonum) It is represented by biennial herbaceous plants, reaching a height of 2 m. Also in culture there are less tall specimens - up to 50 cm high. Other names of the species are felted teasers, suckoval tease. The foliage of the forest teapot is oblong, lanceolate, equipped with short petioles. The flowers are white or purple, collected in capitate inflorescences up to 8 cm long. They are characterized by linear lanceolate leaves of the envelope. Flowering occurs in early summer, usually in the second decade of June. Fruiting occurs in the first or second decade of August.

• Split fleece (lat. Dipsacus laciniatus) represented by biennial herbaceous plants up to 1.5 m high. It is characterized by a straight ribbed stem, crowned with thorns. Stem foliage, in turn, is opposite, lyre-shaped, thorny in the middle; basal foliage is oblong, obovate, sits on short petioles. The flowers are purple, very pale, collected in capitate inflorescences up to 8 cm long. They are also endowed with subulate bracts. Flowering takes place in early - mid-summer. Fruiting is observed in the first or second decade of August.

• Teasel sowing (lat. Dipsacus sativus) - one of the most popular species of the Vorsyanka genus among gardeners and florists. It is distinguished by a large stem, reaching a height of 2 m. It is literally covered with opposite foliage, which has grown together at its bases. Basal foliage is different, it is wrinkled, light green, forms a powerful rosette. The flowers are collected in cylindrical capitate inflorescences up to 10 cm long, and inflorescences of different sizes are formed on one bush.

Usage

Most species of the Vorsyanka genus, as already mentioned, belong to medicinal plants, however, they are not considered pharmacopoeial, they are not included in the Register of Medicines of the Russian Federation. But in alternative medicine, plants are firmly established. They are famous for their powerful therapeutic effect, because they have a unique composition. They have diuretic, diaphoretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. The only thing is that the composition of plants has been studied unfoundedly, therefore it is not recommended to use it for pregnant and lactating women, as well as children. Before you start taking it, it is important to consult with your doctor.

In addition to the above properties, many species of the Vorsyanka genus boast the ability to accelerate the process of strengthening capillaries and healing open wounds and cuts. An infusion of foliage and stems is suitable for use in diseases of the lungs and even tuberculosis. The infusion is also advised for diseases of the genitourinary system. The infusion, created from the foliage of the forest teapot, is recommended for external use, it instantly deals with dermatological diseases, including eczema and dermatosis.

It should be noted that not only foliage and stems are used for medicinal purposes, roots and flowers are also used. So, the harvesting of roots is carried out immediately after flowering. They are dug up, cleaned, washed, dried in the open air, and then cut and sent to a special dryer. Stems and foliage are harvested at or before flowering. They are cut with a knife, laid on a flat surface and dried in the open air, then placed in cardboard boxes or cloth bags.
