Vesennik (lat. Eranthis) - a flowering shade-tolerant perennial from the Buttercup family. The second name is erantis.
Description
Vesennik is a miniature perennial, endowed with bizarre spherical tubers and bright green leaves, which can be either finger-dissected or finger-divided.
Single apical spring flowers are usually either white or yellow. The diameter of these flowers is on average two and a half centimeters, and at night these flowers tend to close. You can admire the flowering of the spring plant only in early spring - in June this beautiful plant is already going to rest. The flowering period of this handsome man is usually two to three weeks, and after this time, the aboveground parts of the spring plant begin to gradually die off.
The fruits of the spring plant look like accreted flattened leaflets, which contain a huge amount of olive-brown seeds of an oblong-ovoid shape.
In total, the genus of the spring plant has from five to seven species, that is, the genus of this plant is very small.
Where grows
In nature, the spring plant grows mainly in meadows and on mountain slopes, as well as in the forests of Eurasia. Moreover, three varieties of this plant will not be difficult to contemplate on the territory of some states of the former USSR. Southern Europe, Asia, Siberia, China and some islands of Japan - this is far from the whole area of distribution of a beautiful spring.
Usage
In ornamental gardening, the spring is usually planted in rockeries between stones and under the canopy of various trees or shrubs. The spring is especially popular as an ornamental plant in the USA. This handsome man will look very cool as part of the alpine slides, especially if you plant it there along with various primroses. And in gardens or parks, the spring will form bright luxurious carpets!
It is important to remember that all parts of a beautiful spring plant are poisonous and can be dangerous.
Growing and caring
It is best to plant a spring plant in fairly high, semi-shaded areas, reliably protected from the wind. Despite the fact that in general it is very unpretentious, moist, well-drained, loose, slightly alkaline and rich soils will still be most suitable for growing it. This plant will feel especially good near deciduous trees. But swampy soil for planting a spring is not suitable - in such conditions, the plant will be quickly attacked by root rot.
Watering this handsome man requires moderate, while it is important not to forget that in spring, during the active growing season, the spring grower "drinks" much more actively than at rest. Ideally, the water for irrigation should be warm and soft enough, previously settled. It is also very useful for a spring plant to mulch with fallen leaves - it will also become an excellent shelter for this plant. As a rule, a spring plant can grow in the same area for up to five years, after which it must be transplanted.
For the purpose of reproduction, adult spring nodules are divided into two or even three parts, after which they are thoroughly washed in potassium permanganate, dried thoroughly (about a day) and planted in a prepared soil mixture. It is quite permissible to propagate the spring plant with freshly harvested seeds, however, in this case, it will be possible to admire its first flowering only in the third or fifth year. Ideally, seeds are sown before winter, immediately into open ground, and they are buried at the same time to a depth of about two centimeters. If the seeds are sown in spring, then the seeds themselves will germinate only after a year.
