Veinik low belongs to a family called bluegrass, in Latin the name of this plant sounds like this: Calamagrostis epigeios. As for the Latin name of the family, it sounds like this: Poaceae.

Description of the low reed

The low reed grass has many popular names: it is biliuk, and bunch, and long-knee, and corolla. The low reed is a perennial herb, the height of which can vary between eighty and one hundred and fifty centimeters. The plant is endowed with a long and horizontal rhizome. The stems of the low reed grass are straight, rough and coarse. The width of the leaves can reach fifteen millimeters, the leaves will be rough, they are blue-green in color. The tongue of the leaves can reach up to nine millimeters in length. The inflorescence of the low reed grass is a large panicle, the length of such an inflorescence can even reach thirty centimeters, the inflorescence will be compressed and erect. Spikelets of the plant are painted in green or dirty purple tones, they are linear-lanceolate and numerous. The length of such spikelets fluctuates between five and seven millimeters; these spikelets are twisted into bunches. The spike-shaped scales of the plant are linear-subulate, while the lower floral scales of the plant are exactly shorter than the spikelet scales, the lower scales are endowed with a straight awn, which will come out from the middle of the back. As for the hairs on the spikelet axis, they are almost twice as long as the floral scales.

Low reed grass flowering occurs in the summer. Under natural conditions, this plant is found on the territory of Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Central Asia, as well as also in Russia: with the exception of the Arctic and highlands. This plant grows in meadows, meadow steppes, forest edges, clearings, light forests, as well as along the edges of swamps, in damp shrubs, on embankments and in ditches, and besides this, also on sandy soils.

Description of the medicinal properties of low reed grass

For medicinal purposes, the roots of the low reed grass should be used. It is noteworthy that the seeds of this plant have a significant content of fats, protein, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. As for the broth prepared from the roots of the low reed grass, in medicine this remedy is recommended for use as a diuretic.

It is noteworthy that earlier, both mats and mats were often made from long stems of low reed grass. On the territory of Ukraine, the roofs of numerous outbuildings were covered with straw. It is possible to obtain fiber from the stems and leaves of the low reed grass, rope products made from such fiber are much stronger and more durable than hemp ropes. The plant's broom was often used to make brooms.

In order to use the low reed grass as a diuretic, you will need to prepare the following decoction: you need to take one tablespoon of the crushed dry roots of this plant, then add one glass of boiling water and boil the resulting mixture over low heat for five minutes. After that, such a mixture of low reed grass should be infused for one hour, and also filtered. As a diuretic, the obtained broth from the low reed grass should be used one or two tablespoons three times a day.

It is worth noting that such a plant as low reed grass is characterized by a rather large value in forestry. The low reed is the antagonist of the young generations of the forest at the initial stages of its development. This plant oppresses seedlings both in nurseries and in culture. On very fertile soils in a pine forest, many pines are simply doomed to die, and a low reed grass in this case turns out to be a very useful plant.
