Aurinia (lat. Aurinia) - a flowering plant from the Cruciferous family. The second name is hiccup.
Description
Aurinia is a dwarf (its height rarely exceeds thirty centimeters) shrub, endowed with pubescent elongated gray-green leaves. The stems of this plant form bizarre hemispherical bushes, and its diameter can reach up to half a meter.
Small bright yellow flowers of aurinia gather in rather dense racemose inflorescences. And they bloom with the onset of May, and the aurinia blooms quite abundantly. As for its fruits, they are usually very short and bivalve, or swollen, or flat and have an elliptical or oval shape. In addition, they look like naked pods.
In total, the genus of aurinia has seven species, that is, it is not too numerous.
Where grows
Europe (both South and Central) and Asia Minor are considered to be the homeland of aurinia. Quite often it can be found on the territory of Turkey or Ukraine. And its natural habitat is mountains and rocks.
Usage
Aurinia was introduced into the culture back in the distant eighteenth century. It is ideal for growing in rock gardens or rocky slides, as well as for the construction of retaining walls. In addition, Aurinia has proven itself well in flower beds, in curbs, as well as in boxes or large pots. This plant will look very cool as part of bouquets.
Growing and caring
For planting aurinia, sunny areas with sandy or rocky well-drained soils, enriched with calcium (with the addition of gravel, sand or chalk), are ideal. At the same time, the soils themselves should be poor, slightly alkaline or neutral, however, aurinia is able to adapt quite easily to almost any soils. However, at the same time, one should not discount the fact that on too rich soils this beauty will develop intensively to the detriment of its flowering, which in most cases is simply extremely undesirable.
Water the aurinia, trying to prevent flooding - otherwise, the process of its decay may begin, and the beautiful plant will die. In general, aurinia can boast of a very impressive drought resistance and fairly good winter hardiness.
As for the dressing, then aurinia will be quite enough one single dressing, which is given at the very beginning of the season. And in order for it to always maintain an attractive shape and be compact enough, it is recommended to trim it from time to time.
Aurinia can be propagated both by cuttings (this is done at the end of flowering), planting them at a distance of ten centimeters from each other, and by seeds (with the onset of spring). Breeding cuttings are usually five to eight centimeters long and are usually rooted in shady places in wet sand.
