Aruncus sometimes also known as Volzhanka. In Latin, the name of this plant sounds like this: Aruncus. This plant belongs to the family called Rosaceae. In total, there are about twelve species of aruncus, while only three varieties of this plant are known in the culture.

Description of aruncus

Aruncus is a large plant with double or triple feathery compound leaves. The flowers of this plant are small, in color they will be either white or yellowish. The inflorescences of the plant are paniculate, large, and also spreading.

In translation, aruncus means "goat's beard", this plant owes this name to its shape of inflorescences. However, most often the plant is called Volzhanka. In the genus of such herbaceous perennial plants from the Pink family, there are about twelve species. It should be noted that these species will perfectly tolerate the winter period of time.

Most often, you can find dioecious aruncus: in Latin this plant is called Aruncus dioicus. However, such a plant can sometimes be found under such names as: forest aruncus or ordinary aruncus. This plant is very large: it reaches a height of about two meters and a diameter of about one meter. Such an aruncus is endowed with rather beautiful feathery openwork leaves that are on long petioles.

In addition, a rather undersized parsley-leaved aruncus is considered a fairly common species. The height of this plant starts from twenty-five centimeters. The length of the paniculate fluffy inflorescences will not exceed sixty centimeters. Such inflorescences mainly consist of very small flowers, which are most often painted in white tones, however, sometimes cream flowers come across.

Features of care and cultivation of aruncus

It will be most preferable to grow this plant in a slightly darkened place, because under the influence of intense sunlight, the leaves of aruncus can burn out, and also turn yellowish-brown. This plant is extremely undemanding to the composition of the soil, however, the soil must contain a sufficient amount of moisture and a number of organic substances.

As for the features of caring for a plant, aruncus is very undemanding in this regard. You only need to regularly moisten the soil with organic fertilizers, as well as remove weeds in a timely manner, loosen the soil, regularly water and cut off those inflorescences that have already bloomed. The plant itself should be cut in the autumn period, while it is recommended to leave untouched stems about three to four centimeters high.

Reproduction of this plant occurs by means of seeds; reproduction by dividing the rhizome is also permissible. However, hybrid aruncus is capable of propagating exclusively in a vegetative way. In the spring period of time, approximately until the beginning of May, or in the autumn period - before the beginning of October, a part of the plant should be separated from the main bush, and then planted in a new place. Very late in autumn, the plant should not be transplanted, because it will take a lot of time for it to restore the rhizome, which will be invariably damaged during transplantation.

Seeds should be sown during the winter period in a fairly loose and fertile soil. It is also important to remember that the seeds of this plant will not need stratification. When spring comes, it is recommended to plant the seedlings at a distance of about fifteen centimeters from each other. Within a year, the plants are planted at a distance of thirty to forty centimeters. Only two years later, aruncus can be planted in a permanent place. Those young plants that appear in this way will bloom already in the third or fourth year of their life.
