How to check the water quality in a well?

Unfortunately, water in wells is not always of truly high quality and crystal clear, and bad water, as you know, can lead to many different troubles. That is why many well owners regularly check the quality of the well water. And for this it is not at all necessary to take samples to the laboratory - the quality of the water in the well can be checked independently, and in several very effective ways at once! How can this be done?

Potassium permanganate

Taking a small amount of water from the well, immediately add a little potassium permanganate, more commonly known as potassium permanganate, to it. If after that the liquid turns pale pink, then everything is in perfect order with the quality of the water, but if the water acquires a shade uncharacteristic for interaction with potassium permanganate (yellow, for example), then it makes sense to go with water samples to the laboratory, since you definitely cannot drink such water!

Tea

With its help, it is also quite possible to check the quality of well water. Having brewed the most ordinary black tea, carefully pour it into a transparent glass, making sure that the glass is not completely filled with tea (that is, the tea is not poured to the brim). Next, they take the well water intended for testing and add it to a freshly prepared drink (the water should be cold in this case). If, after mixing, the tea acquires a pleasant peach hue, we can conclude that everything is in order with the water, and if it suddenly precipitates or becomes cloudy, you should never drink well water!

Detergent

A small amount of water taken from the well is poured into a clean container, after which very little detergent is added to it (as a rule, dishwashing detergent is taken to check the quality of the water in most cases). Then the water with the detergent added to it must be shaken with a straw or a clean spoon. If there is too little foam or it does not appear at all, this indicates that the water is too hard, and if there is a lot of foam, then the water hardness indicators are normal. By the way, increased water hardness is an indication that the water contains excess salts and alkaline earth materials.

Mirror

And in order to check the quality of well water using a mirror, it is necessary to prepare not only a clean, degreased mirror, but also a pipette. After dropping a few drops of water from a pipette onto the mirror, wait until they dry. If unsightly stains appear in the place where there used to be drops of water, there is no doubt that the water has become very dirty, and such water cannot be called suitable for consumption!

Time

The test of time is an excellent test of so many aspects of life, and the quality of well water is no exception in this case. To test the water in this way, the life-giving moisture collected in the well is poured into a glass and, covering this glass with a lid, the water is removed for several days in a dark place. It will be possible to return to the left glass at least after three days, not earlier. All that will need to be done later is to take a close look at the water. If a sediment appears on the walls or on the bottom of the glass, and even more so if plaque or algae have formed on them, the water is definitely unusable! The same can be said in the event that a film has formed on the surface of the water - ideally, there should not be any such phenomena!

As you can see, it is not so difficult to independently check the quality of well water, which means that it will not hurt to adopt these simplest and affordable methods for everyone!
