Anthemis (lat. Anthemis) - a winter-hardy shade-tolerant plant from the Asteraceae family. Its second name is navel.

Description

Anthemis is a herbaceous annual or perennial with impressive shade tolerance. Sometimes this plant can be a half-shrub with pinnately-split or pinnately dissected leaves.

The root system of antemis is very powerful, and its erect stems usually branch, but they will branch strongly or weakly - it entirely depends on the type of plant. Sessile leaves, just like the shoots of antemis, are covered with small thin hairs.

Yellow or white (and sometimes pink) flowers of antemis form single “chamomile” baskets, while such baskets can be located both on the main stem and on an impressive number of lateral shoots. But the flowering period of a given plant entirely depends on its species and can cover the time period from June to September. At the same time, not only the flowers of this plant, but also its leaves can boast of a pleasant smell! True, there are also plants in this genus with a very specific aroma - for example, smelly antemis.

The genus of antemis is very numerous - there are up to two hundred species in it.

Where grows

Anthemis is a native of Europe, as well as North Africa and Asia. Now this plant will not be difficult to meet on the territory of many other countries and continents, including the Mediterranean and the Caucasus. Perhaps, at present, antemis is not found only in the tropics and in the arctic latitudes!

Usage

In culture, the most often planted anthemis dyeing or yellow-flowered, as well as anthemis mountain and anthemis Marshall Bieberstein. This plant is quite actively planted in sunny areas in mixed groups or flower beds, and low forms of antemis are perfect for rockeries. This handsome man looks very cool in free, not marked by rigid borders, flower beds, and the anthemis will be especially effective in the foreground, because not only its flowers, but also its leaves can boast of impressive decorativeness! And nearby you can safely plant plants with lilac or blue flowers! As for the best partner plants, they will be aquilegia, hosta, irises and peonies. By the way, antemis is also suitable for cutting!

Antemis dye flowers were previously used for dyeing fabrics, as well as an insecticidal agent. In addition, some species of this plant have also found their application in folk medicine - lotions quite successfully stop bleeding, and tinctures and decoctions prepared on the basis of antemis are used for allergies, colds, as well as for chronic or acute gastrointestinal diseases. And a number of varieties of this handsome man gained fame as weeds (dog antemis, for example).

Growing and caring

Anthemis is very unpretentious, so it grows well even on light sandy or rocky soils. But on rich soils, it will grow and fall out much faster. At the same time, this plant will feel best in open areas.

Antemis's winter hardiness is quite high, but this handsome man absolutely cannot stand stagnant moisture.

Reproduction of antemis is carried out mainly by seeds - they are sown in open ground either in autumn or in spring. And already in the second year it will be possible to admire the first flowering of seedlings! It is also quite acceptable to propagate antemis by dividing the bushes - it is usually carried out either with the onset of spring or at the end of the summer season. And the transplant and division is carried out approximately every two or three years.
